“GENERATIONAL SPIRIT”
This mural was created as part of the Beautify Main Streets pilot initiative, presented by East Boston Main Streets and produced by HarborArts. This mural paints a beautiful representation of the spirit of East Boston — our cultural diversity, generational strength, and neighborhood pride.
As a new resident of East Boston, I must integrate with my community. I had the pleasure of working with local artist and muralist Silvia Lopez Chavez. We collaborated with the East Boston Social center and its community. we surveyed many east boston residents prior to the creation of our mural. “Generational Strength” was a reoccurring theme. We decided to represent one member of each generation currently living in East Boston. This was a highly celebrated mural as we had a block party by our mural. We were recognized by our elected officials and supported by our lovely community. Many thanks to the East Boston Social Center. The “Beautify Main Streets” initiative and Harbor Arts.
EXPLOSIVE NATURE SERIES
The “Explosive Nature” concept developed after a series of trips to my native Colombia after being away for 14 years. In my personal reencounter to Colombia, I developed a closer appreciation for the color, movement, and richness of tropical natural settings, its biodiversity, and the varied adaptations of native and indigenous communities across areas. I also often visit US national parks and reservation lands to document migratory birds. From the three main US waterways, numerous species embark upon a long journey of seasonal migration in search of more formidable habitats, a re-occurrence that caught my attention during my travels. It’s interesting to see the adaptation of these species to their natural surroundings. Adaptation is something that we as humans (a traveling and migratory species) normally experience as well.
